How do Horse Racing Odds Work? Unlike sports betting where you lock in a pointspread and/or moneyline, horse racing odds change right up through post time. It is called parimutuel betting. All the money bet on a given horse is added together, the house take removed and the remainder split up among all the winners. It doesn't matter what the odds are when you place the wager, all the matters is the price for the hose at post time.

Track Betting versus Off-Track Betting Track betting is all the bets placed at the horse racing establishment. The track typically sets the odds for horses since they have the most money at stake, so they get the truest odds. Off-track betting can include specialty brick-and-morter gambling establishments or offshore racebooks (usually associated with offshore sportsbooks).

Where is the best place to bet? Being the Wagering-Sports favors offshore sportsbooks, were you expecting a different answer? The truth is, offshore sportsbooks often offer enchanced track odds (sometimes as much as 10-20%!). And some also offer cash rebates should you have a losing week or month.

When can I bet on horses? Just about any time! Through the Spring, Summer, and Fall there are many races at many tracks in the US and around the world. Starting from about noon through the evening and even into the night there is a race you can bet.
