Moneylines

What is a moneyline?
A moneyline is a bet with no pointspread, so when placing a bet, you are simply trying to bet on the team that will win the game. The moneyline (e.g. -140, +120) determines the payout per dollar risked.

How do I bet moneylines?
Betting moneylines are easy! There is no spread, so you are simply picking who you think will win the game! Since the overall goal of every team is to win outright, not win by X points, it is much easier to predict who will win the game. But there is a price for that luxury! Favored teams will pay out less than underdogs.

What sports use moneylines?
At CognitivePowers.com, moneylines are used for soccer and baseball. Hockey uses a moneyline in conjunction with a spread. Otherwise, sports are generally always listed at -110 odds with a pointspread, meaning you need to risk 110 CP Coins to win 100.

Most real sportsbooks offer moneylines for all sports, including american football.

How do I calculate a moneyline payout?
Example:
New York Yankees -140
Boston Red Sox +130

A player could choose one of two moneyline wagers on this matchup:

Wagering on the Yankees -140
If the Yankees win then the player is laying $140.00 to win $100.00.

Wagering on the Braves +130
If the Braves win then the player is wagering $100.00 wins $130.00.

To calculate how much your payout will be, use the following formula:
Betting a team with a negative moneyline (e.g. Yankees -140)
(100 / Moneyline) * Bet Amount * -1 = Payout
(100 / -140 ) * 1000 * -1 = 714 payout risking 1000

Betting a team with a positive moneyline (e.g. Braves +130)
(Moneyline / 100) * Bet Amount = Payout
(130 / 100 ) * 1000 = 1300 payout risking 1000

For negative odds, you need to risk the moneyline to win 100, For positive odds, you must risk 100 to win the moneyline.

So, if I bet on all underdogs, I don't have to win 50% to break even?
