Tennis Betting 101
If you want to bet on tennis there are a few things that you should look at before you lay some of your money on a match.- Player’s Rank – You have to look at what the rank of the player and how it is to relation to their opponent. If the player is in the top 10 and play a relatively unknown player you will not get good odds. If the two players are pretty even, you can get good odds on the player that is ranked lower. Rankings aren’t everything, but they are a good indicator on how strong a player is.
- Head-to-head matches – By looking at head-to-head matches you can get some good odds. Let’s say that a player ranked 20th in the world is 4-1 against a top 10 player. You will see that the odds reflect rankings and not past match ups. Find out how the player you plan to bet on has done against their opponent in the past.
- Surface – The surface of a tournament is very important when laying a tennis bet. There are three surfaces that tournaments are played in, which are grass, clay, and hard courts. Players play differently on the surfaces and you have to check on how a player has done on the surface in the tournament you plan to bet on. The surface can change player’s strengths and offset some weaknesses, such as quicker players have an advantage on hard courts and hard serving players losing their edge on clay. Some players are much better on various surfaces and you need to look at that when betting on a match.
- Recent injuries – It is pretty obvious that you need to look at a player’s recent injuries. A player that has missed significant time may not be at their peak form or if a player has a nagging injury they may be behind the 8-ball then the match begins.
- Recent Form – As in any sport confidence is huge in tennis. Many times the recent form of a player is overlooked when people bet on a tennis match. If a player has exited the past few tournaments in early rounds they are not a good bet to make, even if they are ranked much higher than their opponent. Conversely, if a player is coming off a huge win they are in a groove and it may continue in the next tournament. Before laying some green on a tennis match you should look into the recent stats and tournaments of a player.
