Dallas Overview
Dallas has the honor of having the most sports championships of the big 4 sports of any city in the Lone Star State. Dallas has 6 championships and the Dallas Cowboys have 5 of those titles with 5 Super Bowl rings. There is a reason they call the Dallas Cowboys America's Team, as they not only have fans in Dallas but all over the country. The Dallas Stars of the NHL have the city's other title, but the city also has the Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers, who play in Arlington, just outside Dallas. The Big D 'Boys of Dallas
The Dallas Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl wins and they have the most appearances in the big game (8) than any other team in the NFL. The Cowboys won 2 Super Bowls in the 1970's and 3 in the 1990's. In their first Super Bowl win in the 1972 season the Cowboys still hold the distinction of the only winning team that has not allowed a touchdown, as they beat the Miami Dolphins 24-3. In 1989 Jerry Jones became the owner and immediately fired legendary coach Tom Landry and brought in Miami head coach Jimmy Johnson. With Jones' first draft pick he took Troy Aikman with the #1 pick. That same year they traded veteran running back Herschel Walker to Minnesota for a slew of draft picks. Aikman finished 1-15 in his first season, but he led the Cowboys to 3 Super Bowl wins from 1992 to 1995. The Cowboys not only have 5 Super Bowl wins, but 8 conference championships, 21 division championships, and an impressive 30 playoff appearances. The Cowboys play in, shocker, Cowboys Stadium, which is the world's first billion dollar stadium, is the biggest domed stadium in the world, and has the largest high definition video screen.A Maverick in Dallas
The Dallas Mavericks joined the NBA in 1980 and they have won 2 division titles and represented the Western Conference in the NBA finals in 2006. In the finals in 2006 they had a 2-0 lead over the Miami Heat, but lost the next 4 games. The Dallas Mavs, as they are called, are owned by billionaire Mark Cuban, who is not only a huge fan, but he makes NBA news with his rants and raves. The Mavs always seem to make the playoffs and their play their home games at the nice American Airlines Center.Winters in Dallas - The Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars were originally the Minnesota North Stars and moved to the Big D in 1993 and were re-named the Stars. The Stars have represented the Western Conference 2 times in the Stanley Cup and they won the Cup once in 1999 led by Joe Nieuwendyk and Brett Hull. Dallas is always a competitive team and they have won 7 division championships. They play in the American Airlines Center sharing the venue with the Dallas Mavericks. The Texas Rangers Play Near Dallas
The Texas Rangers are an expansion team that was originally in Washington D.C., but moved to Arlington in 1972. In a record they would rather not have, the Rangers are the oldest team in any of the major North American professional leagues that has never won a league championship. However, they have won 3 Division Titles and things are looking up for the Rangers in recent years. They play their home games at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, which is a beautiful outdoor stadium and great place to watch a game.Other Sports in and around Dallas
Dallas also has a professional soccer team in FC Dallas of the MLS and they have a couple other minor league teams. Dallas is a sports crazy town, especially for the Cowboys.
