Chicago Overview

Chicago is a great sports town that has an impressive 24 major championships in the big 4 sports. What is even more impressive that in each of the 4 sports the Windy City has at least 3 championships throughout their history led by the Chicago Bulls with 6 titles. Chicago also has, arguable the best baseball stadium in Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, and the great basketball player ever called Chicago his home dominating the 90's in the NBA and need I say it is Michael Jordan?

Can the Bulls Return to Form?

The Chicago Bulls have won 6 NBA titles, as they won 3 in a row from 1991 to 1993 and they again went for the 3-peat in the years 1996 from 1998. They did not win the title in 1997 because that guy named Jordan decided to take a break and try his hand at baseball. As soon as he found out hoops was his game, who didn't know that, he came back to regain his status as the best in the game. The Bulls won 6 of the 10 NBA titles in the 90's and Jordan won 5 MVP's in his career the first in 1988 and the last a decade later in 1998. But haven't made much noise since his retirement - yet the Chicago Bulls remain a hot ticket.

Does it Get Better than Baseball in Chicago?

Baseball has a rich history in Chicago, as they have 2 MLB teams in the American League Chicago White Sox and the National League Chicago Cubs. Together the Cubs and White Sox have won 5 World Series titles the last in 2005 when the White Sox swept the Houston Astros 4-0 to take the Fall Classic.

Most people talked of the Curse of the Bambino in Boston, but both Chicago teams had a major, drought in winning the World Series. Before the 2005 World Series win, the White Sox had not won it all since 1917. The Cubs own the longest drought in the Major Leagues, not having won since 1908! Overall the White Sox have won 3 titles (2005, 1919, and 1906) and the Cubs have won 2 (1907 and 1908). It is interesting the two teams met in the 1906 World Series with the White Sox prevailing against their cross-town rivals. As mentioned before the Cubs play at the ivy covered outfield walls of Wrigley Field, which is one of the best, if not the best, stadium to take in America's pastime. Tickets can be hard to get!

Da Bear Rock Chicago

Chicago has won 10 football championships, but only 1 Super Bowl back in 1986 led by Jim McMahon, Walter Peyton, a ferocious defense, and William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Interesting fact is that in the history of pro football in the Windy City there have been 9 titles with 3 different team names.

From 1920-1932 the league champion was determined by a team's win-loss percentage and in 1921 the Chicago Staleys won the title and in 1925 the Chicago Cardinals took the top prize. In the late 20's the Chicago Bears came along and won the title in 1932. After the 1932 season the NFL Championship was born and the Bears won the titles in 1933, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1946, and 1963. The Super Bowl came about in 1967 and the Bears won in 1986 and were NFC Champion in 2007. Some of Hall of Famers that played in Chicago are Dick Butkus, Peyton, Gayle Sayers, and Mike Singletary.

Soldier Field - A Chicago Landmark

The Bears play in the "New Soldier Field", which is also where the Chicago Fire of the MLS calls home. Speaking of the Fire the City's professional team won the MLS title back in 1998 and has a great fan base.

Chiago Blackhawks Gaining Popularity

The Chicago Blackhawks have hoisted the Stanley Cup 3 times in the years of 1961, 1938, and 1934. The Blackhawks cannot compare their title drought to the Cubs, but it has been awhile even though Chicago always is competitive and they play in the gorgeous United Center along with the Bulls. Maybe this year...

Other Chicago Sports

Chicago also has a slew of other teams such as the Chicago Wolves (AHL), Chicago Sky (WNBA), Chicago Shamrox (NLL), and Chicago Storm (MISL). As you can see the Windy City is an impressive sports town that does not lack in pro sports teams and major sports championships.
