We’ve been hard at work the past few weeks and have rolled out some exciting changes. More is always in the queue, but I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the new features. First off, I do want to say that this blog is the same as it always has been – we are not taking away anything that is here. It is summer, so naturally there are fewer picks and fewer posts than you may see during the winter when college sports are in action plus hockey, basketball, and of course football.
Here are some of the new things!
A database backend – Back 10 years ago when I started making sports websites, I had a huge database powered website with computer generated picks and a user driven sports betting game. We’ve brought some of those features back now and integrated them throughout the site!
New homepage – We’ve given the homepage a fresh new look featuring the latest blog posts and computer picks Plus, right from the homepage you can get the daily sports cartoon, upcoming games, and more. These updates have been further customized for our individual sport homepages, like Baseball Homepage.
Automated Picks – We’ve added back in our monkey picks, computer picks, and consensus picks. These picks have different values. The monkjey pick is a statistical background – we certainly do not recommend these picks. Consensus picks show inherent user bias – it will be an interesting experiment if they can beat the monkey picks. Again, consensus picks are not necessarily of any value.
Of most interest is the computer picks. We will continue to work on our algorithm to get the most value. In the initial week of this experiment, the computer picked about 58% of the games correctly and came out well ahead even considering the moneyline. These are, as the name suggests, completely computer generated – help us monitor to see if there is something to it or a statistical anomoly to this point!
Make your own bets – For the major sports – baseball, football, college football, basketball, college basketball, hockey, you can make pretend picks on either side or totals. This goes into our database for use in the consensus picks. Contribute to our community by making your picks!
All Game Stats – Using our database, we can look at how teams do in certain situations. For example, how often do road teams win (and cover the spread). There is a lot of data here, and will grow as our database expands and ages. It can be broken down by sport and time period – plus allows you to view either by win percentage or theoretical winnings using the moneyline and spread.
I’m sure you’ll find more as well – keep an eye on this space as I will be highlighting some of my own findings and writing about more new features in the near future.

Along with today’s NBA pick – which is looking excellent at halftime as Cleveland leads 57-51 (I forgot to throw in the Cleveland +2 as an extra pick until after I’d posted up the over 193, but ah well) – I’ve got a couple of extra picks over at the Wagering Sports Facebook group.
I’ll be posting up a few extras over there daily, along with a few betting-related goodies, so make sure you check it out regularly…and if you haven’t joined, join up.
Check ‘em out, give your thoughts, and whether you agree or disagree with my leans, good luck!
