I have to admit that I am extremely disappointed that Rachel Alexandra is not running in Saturdays Belmont Stakes. As anyone who has read my past blogs on horse racing knows, I have been trumpeting this horse as one of the truly great horses of our era and a filly to boot. Its a major loss not having her in the Kentucky or the Belmont, but we do have an exciting race on our hands with Calvin Borels chance to win a sort of triple crown for jockeys.
I have been reading alot about this race and this quote from Borel really made me think about a wager on Mine That Bird. On Monday, five days before the Belmont Stakes, jockey Calvin Borel hopped off Mine That Bird after a workout and had this to say about the Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner-up’s chances at Saturday’s Belmont Stakes: “We’re gonna win, no questions asked,” he said.
I loved watching Mine that Bird even in the Preakness and I thought she may have had a chance to catch Rachel Alexandra at a longer distance. He has been fantastic in the Kentucky and the Preakness, so his Kentucky Derby victory is looking less like a fluke and he looks more like a serious horse to contend with. He should love the distance of the Belmont, and His sire, Birdstone, won the 2004 Belmont.
two other horses to watch are Charitable man and Dunkirk. Charitable Man on the Peter Pan four weeks ago in impressive fashion. Charitable Man is a perfect 3-for-3 on dirt surfaces and 2-for-2 at Belmont.
Dunkirk had a bad Kentucky Derby but he did stumble and did not like the sloppy conditions of the Derby according to his trainer. I like Dunkirk but I lost some money on this impressive horse at the Kentucky so I am a little gun shy.
I am gong to have to go small on Mine That Bird to place.
Have a great weekend and check out some of the great bonuses we have on this page. Alot of books are really offering some great stuff for players during this period when wagering and sporting events slow down so take advantage

We are 8 days away from the running of the third leg of the triple crown, The Belmont Stakes but I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and take a look at this important race. The Belmont Stakes, the final and most demanding leg of the Triple Crown, takes place on June 6, 2009.
This is a longer race and maybe not as prestigious as the Kentucky Derby but this is a race that is actually older than the Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby is the most prestigious horse race of the three, it’s the first big race of the season, the field is larger and most people dont know alot about much about any of the horses in the field and then once the winner is known, the love affair with the winner is set in motion. But , I really love this race and in many ways its easier to make money on the two races after the Kentucky as the field thins and the great horses are easier to spot.
What really sets this race apart is the length of the race. The Preakness is 1 3/16 miles (9.5 furlongs); whereas the Belmont Stakes is 1½ miles (12 furlongs) . One thing to really watch out for in this race is a horses ability to close. If you remember the way Mine that Bird closed in on Rachel Alexandra at the Preakness, you really have to watch Bird at this distance.
I have been big on Rachel Alexandra so far and i hope people have been wagering my recommendations on this horse. This is a beautiful filly but what concerns me is the distance of this next race. In the Preakness but Mike Smith wasn’t as lucky, none of the other jockeys wanted to let the #2 horse Mine that Bird sneak up to the rail like he did at the Kentucky. My question is if the Preakness had of been as long as Belmont would Bird have caught Rachel Alexandra?
Check out our Racing-Futures.asp”>odds page and get some money in for this race. There should be some great deals out there for this last leg of the triple crown so keep an eye on our site over the next few weeks. This is a great race and should be alot of fun
cheers

I have been waiting for this day for weeks now, the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby is here. I have been working in horse for over 15 years part time in various jobs as a groom and in various other jobs and I can tell you this is really one of the great weeks in the whole equestrian world. I usually go to a Derby party, but of course , I have to work today so I will have to take a break and watch the race somewhere. The fact that I have to work and that both of my favorite picks have been scratched and the fact that the conditions look pretty sloppy for the track , all of these make wagering on the race that much harder. I would be real careful wagering alot on this race today.
The truth is there are races all year long that are much easier to make money wagering on. One thing you have to remember in the Derby is that favorites traditionally don’t win here. The biggest challenge that these horses face today face is the distance of 1 1/4 which none of these young 3 year olds have ever run before.
Now a new challenge for the horses that is going to make it harder to handicap this year is the recent inception of polytrack which means that some of today’s contenders have never run on a real dirt track before. If those two complications aren’t enough today will most assuredly feature a wet track, a surface many of today’s horses have yet to experience.
There is a ton of money to be made today if you can pick the exotics. I always shoot for the trifecta by keying a horse or doing an exacta box but I am going to pass today. now that my favorite horses, Quality Road and I want revenge, are not running I think any horse could win this race.
Most horse sites I subscribe to have Friesan fire and Dunkirk and a few have pioneer of the nile [ remember though pioneer of the nile is successful on synthetic tracks]
My pick will be on Dunkirk today but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Friesan fire or even Desert Party or Pioneer of the Nile win it.
I hope everyone wagered on that pick I posted yesterday, Rachel Alexandra, because today wont be that easy.
My picks for the day
updated 1:40 PM
Dunkirk 35 to show
Friesan fire 35 to show
I am going to play this safe, the more I think about it. 35 to show on two of the contenders.
No exotics today with the scratches and track conditions.

I am coming off a great day and I have been really doing well. I know a lot of people believe handicapping is all numbers and emotions or feeling should not get in the way of capping stats, ats figures, E.R.A.s, etc. But I really do believe in streaks and when you feel one coming on you need to ride it. This has been true in my experience. I have been really doing well on the horses and in the black in my sports wagers so lets see if we can keep it up.
I started this blog earlier today and I am just getting to post it.The Red sox game and Yankees game should be in the first inning by the time I have finished my write up so I wont count on my official record either pick if the Yankees and Red Sox are winning in the first inning.
The Yankees host the Angels today under another dark cloud with more crazy news about Arod. This book about Arod is nothing but innuendo and rumors but these people are just so filled with rage towards the guy that it seems to be open season on Arod and the Yanks. I am really looking forward to Arods return but it isn’t going to be pretty in the ballparks when he does come back.
My play tonight is primarily against the Angels as much as a play on the Yankees. The Angels are really struggling to score runs this season. They let Mark Teixeira go to New York in the off season, and their best hitter in Vlad Guerrero is injured right now. The Angels are really struggling on offense on the road. this just isnt the same angels team right now.. New York is getting their bats going, putting up 33 runs in their last 5 games. I have loved watching them hit lately.
This is a huge mismatch on the mound with A.J. Burnett taking on Anthony Ortega. The right hander for the Angels in Ortega is off to a tough start in his first year as a starter, giving up 2 home runs in his lone start with a 7.20 ERA.
play the Yankees on the run line -1.5 -110

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
Prediction: Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox won another game last night and have now won 9 of their last 10 games. This is the hottest team in baseball and I am going to ride this train until it ends. Boston is 12-1 in their last 13 games overall. In their last 11 games as a favorite they are 10-1. Beckett takes the mound tonight and the Red Sox have won 3 of his 4 starts this season. The Rays have lost 2 straight and are 3-7 in their last 10 overall. AT home they have lost 5 of their 7 games this season. Garza is 1-2 on the year with a 4.97 ERA. The Rays are 0-3 in his last 3 starts and his ERA in the 3 games is 6.38.
Play on the Boston Red Sox -120

Arizona D-Backs vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Play: Milwaukee Brewers
Miller Park will be the site of tonight’s National League battle between the host Milwaukee Brewers and the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona was hoping to duplicate last season’s performance during the month of April but they have come up short with a record of 8-12 W/L (-6.2). This is a really poor Arizona offense and I like Suppan on the mound.
Play the Brewers -109 risking 50 to win 45.87
Chicago Blackhawks at Vancouver Canucks
Prediction: Vancouver Canucks
After sweeping the Blues, the Canucks have had an extra long layoff. and that does worry me that they could be rusty but you have to lok at the numbers this year. They’re an outstanding 15-2 their last 17 home games (4-0 L4) and I look for them to start tonight with a with a victory. The canucks have looked great so far and Vancouver swept their series against the Blues, going 4-0 on the moneyline (as a favorite in every game) and 1-3 on the puckline. You have to go with Roberto Luongo .
Play the canucks -140 28 to win 20
My favorte play of the night is Houston. the rockets have some injuries but I dont really think it matters. The Rockets finally break this chain of losing in the playoffs tonight and advance but I am buying two points. The Blazers have been a covering machine in this series and most games have been close.

If you want to make some easy money wager on this horse on friday, Rachel Alexandra or at least watch this race. This is where most of us horse fans start the derby weekend with this race. I gave some info on The Oaks on an earlier blog and this horse Rachel Alexandra. This horse is incredible, I would be shocked if she didnt win. Here is the info for tommorows race.
A field of eight is entered for Friday’s running of the 135th Kentucky Oaks.
Post positions for the $500,000, fillies only race were drawn Tuesday morning at Churchill Downs.
The heavy favorite is Rachel Alexandra, with 3-to-5 odds for the mile-and-an-eighth race. She’ll run from the number six post position.
Rachel Alexandra is trained by Hal Wiggins and will be ridden by Calvin Borel.
The post position draw for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby will be held Wednesday at noon at Churchill Downs.
Here’s a rundown of the Oaks field from Churchill Downs:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 28, 2009) – L and M Partner’s brilliant Rachel Alexandra, who closed 2008 with a dominating victory in the Golden Rod (Grade II) beneath the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs, will put a four-race win streak on the line Friday when she faces seven rivals in the 135th running of the $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (Grade I) at the legendary Louisville track.
The Oaks, America’s top race for 3-year-old fillies, will go as the 11th race on Friday with a 5:45 p.m. (all times EDT) post time. The 12-race Oaks Day card has a first post time of 10:30 a.m.”
Watch this horse and wager on her Friday.
Cheers
I have decided to wager on Rachel Alexandra. The conditions are not great today and maybe for the whole weekend which worries me but I love this horse. I am not a great fan of exotics in these big races but if I were going to do anything resembling an exotic today it would be a Derby Double with Rachel A. and I want revenge but I am going to play it safe today.
75 – rachel alexandra win – race 11
doing the daily double rachel a. and waccamaw risking 35
