Comparing Parlay Payouts

As we review sportsbooks, we generate some data and sometimes we just dont think twice about putting it online for everyone to see. As the first effort to this effort, we took a laook at parlay payouts for the four sportsbook we recommend: BetUS, Bodog, Bookmaker, and Intertops. The three “B”s use parlay cards – meaning they offer fixed odds for side wagers (typically -110 odds) based on the number of teams you play. Intertops doesn’t have much info on their website, so we inquired further and found they treat all parlays similar to a moneyline parlay – and from that we calculated the payout assuming -110 odds for all selection to include in our table.

So – here is the data… The table shows the amount won based on a $100 bet. You will note that Intertops has HUGE advantage on large parlays. Just realize some sportsbook put caps on the amount you can win a single bet – so read the rules before placing the bets. Also, large parlays are so hard to win – even for the most seasoned handicapper they should be avoided if you are actually looking to win.

Sportsbook Payouts for Paylays

#Teams BetUS Bodog Bookmaker Intertops
2 Teams 260 260   265
3 Teams 600 600 550 597
4 Teams 1,200 1,200 1,000 1,231
5 Teams 2,500 2,500 2,000 2,442
6 Teams 4,000 3,500 4,000 4,755
7 Teams 7,500 7,500 8,000 9,173
8 Teams 10,000 10,000 15,000 17,612
9 Teams 15,000 15,000 30,000 33,730
10 Teams 30,000 30,000 60,000 64,515

12 Teams 60,000 60,000   235,622
13 Teams 75,000     450,129
14 Teams 90,000     859,838
15 Teams 150,000     1,642,382

For a true odds chart, you need to win 52.36% of your bets to break even, regardless of the number of teams. On a parlay card, it is typically 52%-54% depending on the number of teams and the specific payout.

How to Bet at a Sportsbook

To bet on football and other sports, you need a good sportsbook, knowledge of betting on sports, and some internet savvy. There are other pages dedicated to teaching you about finding a good sportsbook and help betting on football. This article will help you tackle the internet to open a sportsbook account in time, deposit funds using various payment processors, and start making wagers.

When you get to the website for the sportsbook, you will need to sign up. You can bet it is usually pretty easy to find. Some sportsbooks allow you to create your own username, others will automatically generate it for you. Make sure you choose a secure password as well – a funded sportsbook account is much like a bank account, but it is very difficult to prove if your account is hacked and someone else blows your bankroll on a crazy parlay. Dont get me wrong – online sportsbooks have a high level of security – but it is only as secure as your password. You will also be asked for your birthdate – this is to confirm your age. Responsible sportsbooks take extensive efforts to make sure all their bettors are of appropriate age and not some kid using Daddy’s credit card. Be sure to answer all the questions honestly – otherwise it can delay or void payouts for future winnings!

Now that you have an account, you need to deposit funds. Online sportsbooks do not allow credit! Check out this guide on specific sportsbook deposit methods. Depositing money to a sportsbook is not difficult, but credit card transactions do not always go through, especially for gamblers in the United States. There are a variety of ways to get money into and out of a sportsbook. Some traditional methods, like wiring money or sending an echeck are available. But most people use 3rd party online payment solutions. It seems like these companies are popping up left and right! Right now there are at least a half dozen great choices, ranging from neteller to firepay to moneybookers and more. To use these, you create an account and fund it. You can fund these accounts by linking your home bank account or by credit card. Once you have this account funded, it is a snap to move that money into the sportsbook. Quite often, withdrawls from the sportsbook can be handled in the same manner.

Once you have money in the sportsbook, you can start betting! Every book has their own software, so it is a bit different to explain exactly what to do. We recommend you decide beforehand what bets you plan to make – once you load the page with lines, there is a limited amount of time before the page expires. Sometimes this time is as short as 5 minutes. Bets are typically sorted by sport, and a different page may need to be loaded whether you are playing straight wagers, parlays, teasers, etc. Be careful! Even after you make your bets, you will be asked to confirm within the next minute or two – if you fail to complete this step, the wagers will not count. It is an awful feeling to have won your bets and realize they were never recorded!

It may seem like a lot of work to get started, but once you are up and running you are set for years. Just plan ahead – getting the ball rolling the day before the opening weekend for NFL football may be too late to get an account funded – it depends on how you arrange to get money to the account. And if you get stuck or have questions, any sportsbook’s customer service department is a phone call away and happy to help!

And once you are comfortable, it is recommended you open 3 or 4 accounts… That way you can get a few different promos and can pick the best odds for the game you want to bet.

Choosing a Sportsbook

Anyone can recommend a sportsbook to you. Most likely, if a sportsbook comes recommended it is a good sportsbook… But is it right for you? That depends on the way you gamble and what you are looking for. It’s like looking for fast food – McDonald’s is as good as Subway, but you might be in a mood for hamburger. And then of course you could go to Burger King as well. It’s all about finding what you want.

And when looking for a football sportsbook, or a sportsbook for other sports, you might not know what to look for, here is a breakdown of the features you will find, varying from sportsbook to sportsbook. And the best part? There is no rule that you can open only one sports betting account – it is perfectly valid to open one account at a variety of different sportsbooks for the best of all worlds.

1. Line Prices
Some sportsbooks have better lines than others. There are sportsbooks that offer reduced juice. Most of the time, this is -105 for all side and total bets – better than -110 odds you usually get. Also, pay attention to the pointspread – this can vary from sportsbook to sportsbook. It is worth having a couple different sportsbook accounts just so you can always get the best line – one point can be the difference between winning and losing! At the very least, many sportsbooks offer some kind of “happy hour” or other promotion, like half point fridays or reduced juice tuesdays.

2. Signup Bonus
Most sportsbooks offer some kind of signup bonus. It is a big deal to select a sportsbook, and they want to make sure you are satisfied with your decision. Typically, new deposit bonuses range from 10-20%, but range from 0% and up. Be weary of bonuses that are too high – profit margins are not like casinos, so 100% bonuses are typically not available. Remember many signup bonuses are one time deals! Check the sportsbook for reload bonuses or subsequent bonuses – one time bonuses do not add long term value to your sportsbook account – unless they are supported by a host of other promos!

3. Customer Support
Not much needs to be said here. Good customer support is essential. Whether it is by email, phone, live chat, etc – you want good people that try to solve the problem and fluently speak your language. We always recommend giving customer service a call just to test them out – ask them about their licenses/regulation, betting limits, years in operation, weekend support, and anything else you need to feel good about trusting them with your money.

4. Parlays and Teasers
If you are big into teasers or parlays, check the payouts! Believe it or not, from sportsbook to sportsbook the lines can change pretty drastically… Especially when you get up to bigger parlays. But even 3 or 4 team parlays can give different payouts. A few years back, one sportsbook offered a promotion where certain parlays were even money bets during some time period (no juice).

5. Betting Limits
Are you looking to bet a couple bucks per game or a big dollar player? Most online sportsbooks are happy to accommodate everyone. Some of the smaller online operations just cannot cover large 4 digit bets. It isn’t necessarily because they are financially insecure as much as they don’t have the numbers to offset a big bet with money on the other side. With online gambling requiring minimal human interaction, and thus fixed costs, even bets for $1 are often allowed. Realize if you want to call in your bets, there probably will be a higher minimum wager.

6. Casino and Poker Contests
Sportsbooks love to cross sell. Most sports betting accounts also come with poker, casinos, and horse racing at your fingertips. Quite often, one account allows you to play at any of them. BUT, if you like playing blackjack or poker, some sportsbooks will give you entries into freeroll contests. Poker freerolls are very common nowadays with the explosion of Texas Holdem poker across the world. Some of these free tournaments have nice jackpots and while there is skill in poker, it also requires a good amount of luck to get the right cards. Blackjack tournaments are also becoming increasingly popular and add another perk for opening a sportsbook account at certain sportsbooks.

7. Rewards Program
In Las Vegas, when you get to a new casino you typically sign up for their rewards card. Online sportsbooks are no different and many are now starting to offer similar deals. By simply betting at their sportsbook, you can win anything from free cash, to articles of clothing, various services, tickets to sporting events, even vacations.

8. Website Ease of Use
Give the sportsbook a spin before playing money. This usually requires you to sign up, but you do not need to make a deposit. The gaming platform can be complex and may take some practice. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, you want to find the game, the related lines, and make your wager – quick and easy. Not every sportsbook is so intuitive! It is a monumental task to organize thousands of games per year – most all having multiple lines. For example, a single baseball game can have a moneyline, runline, and a 1st 5 innings line. Keeping these together and making it easy to find is challenging – some software has done a better job than others.

9. Wireless wagering? Index Wagering? PXP Betting? Live Wagering?
Wireless wagering is quickly becoming the rage. As wifi and other public internet access becomes widespread, operators want you to be able to place wagers from your phone or pda. If this is something that interests you, make sure the sportsbook offers it! Same goes for index wagers and play by play (PXP) betting. These are not commonplace yet, but very fun – if you are into this kind of thing.

10. Other Giveaways
So many sportsbooks have their own magazine type publication – full of sports schedules and helpful information to make your online gambling experience more enjoyable. Sports and bikini calendars are a very common giveaway, made famous by Bodog – but others have followed suit. Some, like BetUS, have even gone as far as giving away DVD’s showing the making of the swimsuit calendar! Tshirts, caps, and other apparel are not common gifts, but every football season something gets sent out! I got a football last year! Quite often these promos are unadvertised, but make a great question to ask support, if it will tip your decision!
