The Greenbrier Classic Preview
This week the PGA Tour stops in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia for the Greenbrier Classic. Because of the wide fairways and long yardage of the course players that are solid drivers and good short iron players are at a big advantage. The Greenbrier Classic is not one of the bigger tournaments and there is only one top 20 player in the field this week.
Here are some of the golfers that have the best odds and their odds to win the Greenbrier Classic at one of the leading sportsbooks.
Jim Furyk +1500 – Furyk is the lone player in the top 20 playing this week and because of that he has the best odds. He is not a big hitter and that will hurt him this week and he is not playing his best golf after missing the cut at the British Open. However, he has a great game and if he can put well he has a chance.
Nick Watney +2000 – Watney is playing well recording back-to-back top 10 finishes in the AT&T and the British Open. He has the length to do well this week and if he does not miss the fairway he should be in contention.
Matt Kuchar +2000 – Kuchar is not a big hitter, but is one of the better ball strikers in the field and he ranks in the top 20 on the PGA in total driving and greens in regulation. There are 12 par 4’s in the Greenbrier Classic and Kuchar ranks #1 on tour in birdies on par 4’s, which is a great thing this week.
Jeff Overton +2500 – Overton has been playing great with 4 top 10 finishes since late April. He ranks 20th in driving and 25th in total putting, so this tournament is suited to his game. He has yet to win a PGA event, but that may change this weekend.
Sergio Garcia +3000 – Garcia has decent odds, but this tournament does not fit well with his game, especially since he only ranks 57th in driving distance and 115th in driving accuracy. However, if the Spaniard can hit his mid irons to the green close he may be the hunt, but he still only ranks 130th in greens hit in regulation.
JB Holmes +3000 – Holmes has a good game for this tournament, especially since he averages 304.4 yards off the tee and he is a solid putter.
You want a major dark horse pick? How about John Daly at +15000. The 2 time Major winner has the lowest odds of anyone in the field and he has been far from stellar this season, but he has the length and tough on the green to play well this weekend.
