Turkey Day NFL Preview! Giants at Denver
New York Giants -6.5 (6-4) at Denver Broncos (6-4) O/U 42
This game is the 3rd game slated for Thanksgiving Day, but may be the only one worth watching, as in the other games the Lions host the Packers and the Cowboys host the Raiders.
The Broncos are in a free-fall, as they have dropped 4 straight games and now they trail the San Diego Chargers by 1 game in the AFC West. The Giants had a 4-game losing streak of their own, but they won last week. The Giants have had major issues on defense lately, as they have given up almost 32 points per game in their last 5 games. The Broncos are having issues on both sides of the ball, as in their losing streak they have been outscored 117-37.
Last week the Broncos lost to the San Diego Chargers 32-3 while the Giants beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-31 in OT.
Last season the Broncos imploded and handed the AFC West crown to the Chargers and it looks as if history is repeating itself this season. The Broncos can still make the playoffs and may even win the division, but they need to turn things around quick. They do have to play the Colts and Eagles still, but they also have to face the Chiefs twice and the Raiders once.
The Giants are in 2nd place in the tough NFC East and they need to win this game to keep pace with the 1st pace Cowboys, who also play on Turkey Day facing a weak Oakland team.
The Giants have the league’s 4th ranked offense and last week QB Eli Manning passed for a career high 384 yards and tossed 3 TD’s. He may have to carry the offense again, as both RB’s Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are banged up even though Jacobs should play. The Broncos’ defense has given up an average of almost 30 ppg in their 4-game losing streak and they need to play well in this game, especially in the secondary. The Denver D also has to get Manning and not allow him time to find his targets.
Kyle Orton will start for the Broncos even though he is still suffering from a sprained ankle. Chris Simms has done absolutely nothing when Orton is out so Denver cannot afford to lose him in this game. Knowshon Moreno (600 yds 2 TD) and Correll Buckhalter (399 yds 1 TD) have struggled, along with the whole Denver team, and they need to pick up some yards in this game and take some pressure off Orton. The Giants’ defense ranks 2nd in the league and while they are solid at stopping the run their secondary has been torched in the last few games.
The Giants are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games and the total has gone Over in 4 of their last 6 games. The Broncos are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games and are 3-9-1 in their last 13 games at home.
