Free NBA Picks – Thursday, November 5
In a word, I’m frustrated.
I’ll take the over/under loss on Sacramento/Memphis for what it is, but it was a second straight night of fourth-quarter pain for me on the way to another 1-4 mark.
The Mavericks were on their way to a win in New Orleans before allowing Peja Stojakovic to nail a game-tying three, and the Hornets took over in overtime and covered in the end.
The Knicks had the game in hand against the Pacers, but the well went dry in the second half (31 points in the second quarter, 33 points total in the second half), and the Pacers came back for a double-digit win.
Then there was Washington-Miami, where the Wizards gamely overcame an early hole to lead late, but alas, it was not to be.
Thank goodness there are only two games tonight, right? After perusing tonight’s NBA odds, I pondered picking on both the spreads and the totals tonight, but I’m just going to stick with one tonight for my own good.
Where will it get me? We shall find out.
NBA PICKS RECORD
Yesterday (Wednesday, Nov. 4): 1-4
Season-to-date: 4-9
TODAY’S NBA PICKS
CLEVELAND -11 1/2 vs. Chicago
SAN ANTONIO -1 at Utah
Cleveland Cavaliers (3-2) vs. Chicago Bulls (2-2)
After dropping their first two games, the Cavs have recorded three straight double-digit wins to take over first in the Central Division and welcome the Bulls into town .
Would it be safe to say that the Bulls miss Ben Gordon? Luol Deng is playing well, but the Bulls averaging only 88 points per game so far this season. It would help if John Salmons could start finding his groove, and this might be the night for him to do it. In his last three trips to Cleveland, Salmons is a blistering 22 of 32 from the field.
The Cavaliers are giving up around 85 points per game in their last three games, so they’ve tightened it up defensively after giving up 95 and 101 in their losses to Boston and Toronto.
An interesting trend is that the total has been over 191 in 10 of the last 12 meetings between the Bulls. But with the way that the Bulls have been struggling to generate offense besides Deng, you might like the under.
I am keeping the above numbers in mind, but I’m sticking with the spreads tonight. The Cavs are hitting their stride, the Bulls are hitting a bunch of iron. Take the Cavs and the points.
Utah Jazz (1-3) vs. San Antonio Spurs (2-1)
Utah has dropped double-digit games to Houston and Dallas this week – can San Antonio complete a Texan trifecta tonight?
The Spurs were one of few teams to have success in Utah last season, winning 106-100, and judging from the way Utah has played thus far against the West’s top teams (nine-point loss at Denver, 17-point loss at home vs. Houston, 11-point loss at Dallas), the Spurs could be in for more success in SLC tonight.
While last season’s game in Utah was relatively high-scoring, you have to go back to 1997 to find a regular-season game meeting in Utah that went above tonight’s over/under. That’s something worth considering if you’re looking to wager on the over/under, but as I said, it‘s about the spreads tonight, and I‘m taking the Spurs at -1.
