THE WEEK IN SPORTS
This incredible time of the year continues this week as the MLB playoffs continues this week, NFL has a fantastic Monday night game and we have a lot of interesting college football games on deck. We have alot to cover so lets get to it.
So what do we have to look forward to in college football this week and what have we learned from last week.
One huge game of course is the Red River shootout. The “take-out” line from Las Vegas Sports Consultants for Saturday’s Oklahoma-Texas game is out, and it’s pretty low in my opinion. Texas by 1.5 This line will rise,Texas is the better team.
Who wins the Big East’s big showdown on Thursday night between Cincinnati and South Florida?
Does Notre Dame have a chance against USC on Saturday?
Is the Heisman race pretty much between Florida’s Tim Tebow and Texas’ Colt McCoy now?
One thing is for certain to me at least, is there any doubt now that Florida and Alabama are the country’s two best teams.Winning at home the way the Gators did on Saturday would have been impressive in itself,. but Florida’s domination of LSU in Baton Rouge and Alabama’s beatdown of Mississippi in Oxford put these two are miles above the competition — and on a direct collision course in the SEC championship game. Florida and Alabama went on the road against great teams and held each to three points, unreal.

Tonight’s game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, among the NFL’s more bitter division rivals, marks the “Monday Night Football” debut of the Jets’ Mark Sanchez and the Dolphins’ Chad Henne. Both players have something to prove.
Sanchez, who looked sharp in his first three games, is coming off a four-turnover performance in a loss at New Orleans. How will he bounce back?
And tonight he will be playing with an additional offensive weapon. The Jets last week traded for Cleveland receiver Braylon Edwards, a big-name downfield threat who is slated to start right away.
The biggest on-field knock on Edwards is his inability to hang onto the ball. Since 2007, he has had 30 drops, tied with Denver’s Brandon Marshall for the most over that span.
Henne, a second-year player who replaced the injured Chad Pennington, was solid last Sunday in his first start, a 38-10 victory over Buffalo. The Dolphins took the pressure off him by running the ball — they gained 250 yards on the ground — and attempted only 22 passing plays. Henne didn’t have an interception, but he was sacked six times.
The Jets offer a far tougher challenge, as their defense is ranked fourth compared with Buffalo’s 27th.
We have had alot of short series in the MLB playoffs as three out of four series ended in sweeps. The first team to fall was the St. Louis Cardinals. Coming as a surprise to many, the Cards did not even put up a fight against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With their strong starting pitching and stout offense led by sluggers Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday, a World Series victory did not seem far away.
But, the Dodgers pitching and offense proved to be too much, and the Cardinals’ season ended earlier than expected.
Yankees, Angels complete playoff sweeps. The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 4-1 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of their division series and set up an AL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels rallied to beat the Red Sox 7-6 in Boston to complete a sweep of their own.
Late, late Sunday night it was more of the same in Denver at Coors Field where the Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies took three days to complete Game 3 of their best-of-5 National League Divisional Series.
Inclement weather of course kept Game 3 from being played Saturday. An 8:08 p.m. start time and 13 different pitching changes were the primary reasons for Sunday’s game not ending until early Monday morning.
When it was all said and done, the Phillies scored a run in the top of ninth to squeak out a 6-5 decision from the Rockies and take a 2-1 series lead.
