Poker in Vegas, part 3
I woke up on my third day in Las Vegas not happy with the way that things were going so far. I hadn’t had one winning session yet, but I knew that things were going to turn around eventually. The only problem was that I only had two more days to make it happen.
I decided to play this day at the Venetian. The poker room at the Venetian has only been open for 3 years, but is has quickly become the classiest poker room in Las Vegas. There are always plenty of games to choose from, however the competition can be tougher here than at some of the other poker rooms in town. By tougher games, I mean tougher than other live poker rooms, but still way softer than the games that I normally play on the internet. I should still be able to outplay the majority of the players at these tables.
I sat down at a 1/2 NL table and things continued as usual as I proceeded to lose about two buy-ins. I actually started on a winning note and was up a buy-in but lost my whole stack when I got all my money in with KK on an 8 high flop only to lose to A8 when another 8 came on the turn. My opponent had me covered and I had to pull out another $300 from my pocket.
The last hand I played that night was just typical of the way that things were going for me on this trip. I limped in with J9 and the flop came J94 rainbow. I happily got all my money in on the flop against a young Asian kid who turned over KJ. Of course a K came on the turn and I was stacked again.
I decided that I was going to go back over to the Mirage and get some more money from my in-room safe and go play elsewhere. When I got back, I wisely decided that I could easily be prone to tilt now and that I would be better off just going to bed and trying to start again the next day.
So, that is what I did. I had just one more day to turn things around.
