Monday Night Football Preview
Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) -7.5 at Washington Redskins (2-4) O/U 37.5
Both of these team have not had the best weeks, as the Redskins’ head coach Jim Zorn had his play calling duties revoked and the Eagles are getting over their loss to the weak Oakland Raiders. Well, at least the Redskins are 2-1 this season and they have cool uniforms. They have allowed 3 teams to get their first win of the season and their other two wins were very close games against teams that have a grand total of 0 wins. The Eagles have big concerns in their offensive line, as last week they allowed 6 sacks to the Raiders. This game is, pretty much, vital for both teams, as a loss, especially by the Redskins, will make making the playoffs a big uphill battle.
If you looks at the stats for the game it does not look good for the Redskins, as the Eagles have more per game averages of total yards, passing yards, and rushing yards and on defense less yards allowed and less rushing yards allowed. At least the Skins have given up fewer passing yards per game. Skins’ QB Jason Campbell will get the start after getting benched in the last game and he has to play well, as the Redskins will not only lose, but he may lose his starting job. RB Clinton Portis has been decent, but the Redskins have been going to the pass more often then they are used to since they are having to come back in games this season. The Redskins are, pretty much, a mess this season, but they can turn their season around with a win in the nation’s capital against the rival Eagles.
The Skins are averaging 13.2 points, which is the 4th fewest in the league and they have not scored a TD in 2 of their 3 games at FedEx Field this season.
The Eagles are 1-1 on the road this season and they have to get back to running the ball in this game. In their loss to the Raiders last week they passed the ball 54 times and only ran it 12 times even though they averaged 4.8 yards per carry. RB Brian Westbrook has to be more involved in the offense and the Eagles’ offensive line not only has to open up holes for him, but protect QB Donovan McNabb. If the Redskins can get to McNabb and contain Westbrook they may score the minor upset.
The Redskins have made a lot of dumb mistakes this season in terms of turnovers and they have to hold onto the ball in this game or they will be in trouble.
Last season the Eagles lost both games against the Redskins and if they are going to get back to the playoffs they cannot let that happen again.
Can the Redskins turn their season around? Are the Eagles a playoff caliber team? Both of these questions may be answered in this HUGE NFC East Monday night match up.
