Vick Just Adds to a Long Line of Ifs for the Eagles
So, it is official. Michael Vick has found a new team in the NFL and it is the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick signed a 2-year contract with the Eagles and he gives them another solid offensive weapon.
The Eagles are at +400 to win the NFC this season and are at +900 to win the Super Bowl at one of the leading sports books.
Last season the Eagles made it to the NFC Championship game and their offense may be stacked this season with all their new additions, but there are still a lot of ifs in the City of Brotherly Love.
The one big if is with Michael Vick and if he can compliment the Eagles’ offense. Vick may miss a few games in the beginning of the season, but there is no doubt that he can still make plays. The Eagles may run Vick out of the Wildcat offense in some schemes, but is he the backup QB to Donovan McNabb? Last season head coach Andy Reid benched McNabb in the middle of the season and Donovan responded by making it all the way to the championship game. It remains to be seen what role Vick will have in the Eagles’ offense.
Is Westbrook back and if he is not is LeSean McCoy the heir apparent?
In the off-season Eagles RB Michael Westbrook had ankle surgery, but he has looked good in camp so far. Can he regain his form and be one of the best offensive weapons in the NFL again? The Eagles sure hope so, but they also have a backup plan, as they drafted LeSean McCoy with their 2nd round pick and he is an exciting player to say the least. Whoever the QB is, who will be their RB come the regular season and can he pick up some needed yards?
If McNabb is given time to throw, if he is, is Maclin the man?
The Eagles used their 1st round draft pick to take WR Jeremy Maclin from Missouri and Maclin is supposed to be the real deal. McNabb has not had a legit #1 WR in quite some time and will Maclin be that guy? McNabb has a better chance to find his WR’s this season, as the Eagles traded for All Pro LT Jason Peters in the off-season. Because of this McNabb may have more time to use his new offensive weapons.
Can McNabb repeat last season’s performance?
McNabb played stellar at the end of the last season and guided the Eagles all the way to the NFC Championship Game and can he do it again? The Eagles rewarded McNabb with a new 2-year contract, but he has to find the Fountain of Youth again and his new weapons on offense should help.
As you can see the Eagles have many new weapons on offense, but it remains to be seen if McNabb can use them to get the Eagles past the hump to win the Super Bowl. The Eagles also play in the NFC East, which is the toughest division in all of football and the new offensive players may help the Eagles or they may be in for another disappointing season of getting far, but not far enough.
