NL Wild Card Update

As the summer months are heating up the NL Wild Card race is also heating up, as there are 5 teams that have a legit shot to snag the Wild Card. Some teams are sliding and others are surging, but with just over 50 games left now is the time for teams to take charge and make their post-season moves.

Here are the 5 teams that are in the NL Wild Card race and their odds to win the National League Pennant at one of the leading sportsbooks.

Colorado Rockies +800

The Rockies are currently in the lead in the Wild card race, but by only one game. It was thought that if a team from the NL West were going to make the playoffs they would have to win the Wild Card with how the Dodgers were playing, but L.A. is slumping and the Rockies only trail them by 5.5 games. The Rockies offense is legit, but to make the playoffs their pitching will have to step up.

San Francisco Giants +700

The Giants only trail the Rockies by 1 game in the Wild Card and they have one of the best staffs in the league, but can their offense score enough? The Giants have scored the 2nd fewest runs in the NL this season and they have to win the low scoring games to make the post season. The Marlins were on a torrid streak, before losing their last game, but they are still 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Florida Marlins +1200

The Marlins are staying in the Wild Card race even though they have given up more runs then they have scored this season. They are 3 games back in the Wild Card and trail the Phillies by 4.5 games in the NL East. Their staff needs to pitch better in the last 50 games for them to make the post season unless their offense scores many runs per game.

Atlanta Braves +1400

The Braves have been one of the hottest teams in the 2nd half and they are on a 5 game winning streak and have won 7 of their last 10 games. Pitching wins and the Braves have given up the 3rd fewest runs in the NL this season. Chipper Jones has been solid and he needs to keep the offense scoring and if they do they have a great chance to win the Wild Card. They are tied with the Marlins in both races, as they trail the Phillies by 4.5 games and the Rockies by 3 games in the Wild Card.

Chicago Cubs +700

The Cubs offense finally woke up, as when the 2nd half began they went on a tear and even were in 1st place for a while in the NL Central. They have slid in the past week, as they have lost 4 in a row and are 3-7 in their last 10 games. Their pitching has still been solid, but their offense has quieted down. The Cubbies currently trail the Cardinals in the NL Central by 4 games and they trail the Rockies by 4 games in the Wild Card.
