THE WEEK IN SPORTS
It may be summer and a slow season for sports fans but there is no shortage of action as we move into the hottest part of the year. We are seeing some fascinating trades in the NBA, ,moving towards the all star game in baseball and of course the big story is playing out in England as Wimbledon heads towards the finals. Let’s start with a look at baseball as we head towards the All Star game.
If you are going to vote for Major Leagues All Star game you had better hurry, The cutoff mark for voting for the July 14 game in St. Louis is Thursday night at 11:59 p.m. ET. That gives you four full days to vote for your favorite players. So log on to MLB.com and get your vote in.
The All star race does have some interesting races especially in the AL, with Yankees’ Mark Teixeira having a lead of less than 40,000 votes over the Red Sox’s Kevin Youkilis at first base. And Texas’ Ian Kinsler with about a 60,000-vote lead on Boston’s Dustin Pedroia at second base.
The NL appears to be more settled, with the closest race being between Carlos Beltran and Alfonso Soriano for the third outfield spot. So get on Mlb and vote!
A few series to watch this week
Rays at Blue Jays, June 29-July 1
Halladay returns to the mound and with the Blue Jays and Tampa chasing the Red Sox, this one should be great.
Angels at Rangers, June 29-July 1
The Angels, riding a five-game winning streak, have finally take over first place in the AL West and the Rangers have a great chance to catch them.
Mets at Phillies, July 3-5
For all their struggles and injuries the Mets still enter the week only two games behind their NL East rivals. The Mets need to rally here.

The big news in the NBA off season this past week was Shaq was traded to the Cavaliers for almost nothing. But will it keep LeBron in Cleveland? Major news also coming out of the NBA is Houston Rockets center Yao Ming’s broken left foot isn’t healing properly, and he could be out all of next season and possibly more, one report said Monday.
The Rockets are concerned that Yao might never play in the NBA again, Yahoo! reported, citing unnamed league executives and officials close to the Rockets star.
The foot, which Yao injured in a playoff loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, has not healed properly, Yahoo! reported. It’s the same foot in which three pins were inserted a year ago.
The big news this week of course has been Wimbledon. It is beginning to look to me like another repeat of a Williams sister showdown. Venus Williams advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon when opponent Ana Ivanovic retired one game into the second set Monday.
Williams, seeking her sixth Wimbledon title, led 6-1, love-1 when Ivanovic called it quits.
The Williams sisters remained on course for a rematch of last year’s all-family final, which Venus won. No. 2-seeded Serena Williams, seeking her third Wimbledon title, advanced by beating Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-1.
On the mens side Roger Federer is on track for a a record-setting 15th major as he has looked unstoppable so far. One match I am looking forward to Federer, and the No. 22 seed, the huge serving Ivo Karlovic, who fired 46 aces in his third-round win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Karlovics serve has been absolutely incredible so far.
Fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic could be Federer’s semifinal opponent. Djokovic has looked good and this is really shaping up as an exciting finish on the mens side.
Even in the heat of summer this promises to be a great week in sports. Have a great week.
