THE WEEK IN SPORTS
We are coming off a fantastic weekend in sports as the NBA and the NHL finals have kicked into high gear, Tiger Woods seems back in form and what would NFL training camp be without some Brett Favre news. We will start off by looking at the NBA finals as the best-of-seven NBA Finals are on their way to Orlando.
The Lakers outlasted the Magic 101-96 in overtime last night in Los Angeles to take a 2-0 lead into tomorrow night’s Game 3 in Orlando. The Los Angeles Lakers came away with a 101-96 overtime victory against the Orlando Magic, giving them a commanding 2-0 lead in the 2009 NBA Finals series. Only 3 teams in the history of the NBA Finals have come back from an 0-2 deficit to win the series. The Boston Celtics did it in 1969, the Portland Trail Blazers came back in 1977, and, most recently, the Miami Heat overcame being down 0-2 to the Detroit Pistons to come back and win the championship. Right now this is LA’s tourney to lose as these next few games will be crucial to the Magic, who will eventually need to win a game back in Los Angeles if they are going to win the NBA title. For the Lakers, they can really take control of the series even more with a win in games 3, 4, or 5, as they have the luxury of finishing up the Finals on their home court if games 6 and 7 are necessary.

In the NHL finals, Detroit really dominated game 5 and is certainly in the drivers seat as we head into game 6. Today marks a second straight off day for both the Penguins and the Red Wings. The NHL championship series resumes tomorrow night in Pittsburgh, with the host Penguins trailing the defending champion Red Wings three games to two in the best-of-seven showdown. If needed, Game 7 will be played Friday night in Detroit.
Tuesday night will have both the NHL and NBA finals on TV.

Summer may be a traditionally slow time for sports but with Tiger Woods back that may not prove to be the case this year. Any doubts about Tiger Woods being ready to defend his title at next week’s U.S. Open were wiped out with yesterday’s come-from-behind victory at the Memorial Tournament.
After starting the final round four shots off the lead, the world’s No. 1 Golfer birdied his final two holes en route to a 7-under-par 65 and a one-stroke win over Jim Furyk. Woods missed eight months of play after undergoing knee surgery following last year’s U.S. Open victory. This should be a great Open and you know the leaders of the PGA and the networks must be ecstatic to have Woods back on top.
Finally some news from the NFL as the never ending soap opera with Brett Favre continued with Favre supposedly having shoulder surgery so this retirement drama may go on. In other NFL news, The Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones said the Pacman Jones soap opera may not be over in Dallas and Saints fans are getting a taste of drama, Jeremy Shockey-style, after his fainting spell in Las Vegas.
With Woods back and some great action in baseball, tennis, etc this should be an interesting summer so stay tuned to our site.
Have a great week.
