The tank is still full
Contrary to what you may hear, there are still plenty of fish who play online poker. What you hear from others is that the games are much tougher to beat than they were three, four or five years ago. You’ll hear that the online training sites have made the games almost unbeatable. You’ll hear that the government getting involved and trying to stick their noses where it doesn’t belong has scared the casual fish away from the tables. I’m hear to tell you that this isn’t true.
Six years after Chris Moneymaker started the poker boom with his monumental win at the 2003 World Series of Poker, the tables at the primary U.S. poker sites are full of players, many of whom have little clue what they’re doing. Despite the current recession, or maybe because of it, people are gambling online more than ever. I find it rare to log in to my favorite online poker sites and to not be able to find a good game.
Most of you can beat the game of poker. You can make money in poker if you exercise good emotional control, possess somewhat reasonable logic skills, show a willingness to learn and exercise good bankroll management skills. You have to be willing to put in the effort and spend just as much time studying the game as you actually do playing it. The online training sites and the online forums like 2+2 will give you all the necessary tools that you will need to improve.
The thing is that even though these tools are available, most players don’t take advantage of them. They just aren’t willing to put in the time necessary to become a winning player. They just want to have some fun and don’t really care about becoming a better player. Great, I love these people.
Online poker isn’t packed with sharks and players who are colluding like some people think. Instead, online poker is populated by people who love to gamble and don’t have a clue how to play after the flop. These folks get lucky just enough to keep them at the tables. That’s the way you want it.
