Surging MLB Teams
There are a couple of teams in each league in MLB that are surging and may have a legit shot to surprise this season with their recent good play. Sure, there is still a lot of baseball to play, but these surging teams are trying to get back into the playoff race.
Here are a few surging teams and their futures odds to win the Fall Classic this season at one of the leading sportsbooks.
AL
Tampa Bay Rays (+1500) – The Yankees got all the press in the off-season because of all the big free agents they brought in and the Red Sox brought in a few as well. These teams still have the best odds to win the World Series this year, but let’s not forget that Tampa Bay came out of nowhere to win the AL pennant last season. The Rays struggled at the beginning of the season, but they have currently won 5 games in a row and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Their offense has scored the most runs in the Majors this season (367) and there pitching is starting to come around. The Rays are now 5 games behind the Red So in the AL East, but the defending AL champs can’t be count out.
Los Angeles Angels (+1000) – Most experts though the Angels would have no problem winning the AL West, but the Halos struggled out of the gate. They have righted their ship and they have won 4 in a row and now only trail the struggling Texas Rangers by 2 games in the division. Vladimir Guerrero is now off the DL, Tori Hunter is having a MVP year, and the Angels staff is starting to pitch better. The Angels should catch the Rangers and in the playoffs anything can happen.
NL
Florida Marlins (+5000) – The Marlins started the season on fire and then flamed out, big time, going well below .500. The fish have won 3 in a row and recently passed the Braves for 3rd place in the NL East. Their offense has been legit all season, but their pitching staff has struggled. They have come around, which is why the Marlins are only 1 game below .500. If their staff keeps pitching well the Marlins may battle with the Mets and Phillies for the NL crown.
Colorado Rockies (+5000) – OK, so this ones a stretch, but the Rockies are currently in the midst of a 11 game winning streak and they are only 1 game below .500. They still trail the red hot Dodgers by 10.5 games in the NL West, but if they keep pitching like they have during this streak the Rockies may catch L.A. Jim Tracy took over for a fired Clint Hurdle before the streak and Tracy has brought a winning attitude to Mile High City. The Rockies still have a long way to go, but you have to take notice of an 11 game winning streak.
