Big European World Cup Qualifying Games Tomorrow
Tomorrow there are some key European World Cup qualifying games. While there are still a few games left in group play some teams can clinch a spot in the World Cup next summer and a few that will have their Cup dreams squashed.
Here are the key games tomorrow in the European region and their odds at one of the leading sportsbooks.
Portugal at Albania
Albania 8.00 Portugal 1.40 Draw 4.25
Portugal made the semifinals in the last World Cup in Germany, but they have to start winning or they will be watching the next one from home. They are in a tie for 2nd place in Group 1, but they trail 1st place leaders Hungary and Denmark by 7 points. Christiano Ronoldo has to revive a slumping offense that has only scored 6 goals in 5 group games. The Portuguese D is legit only allowing 3 goals in 5 matches, but they need to start scoring and this is the perfect game to do it, as they are heavily favored against Albania. If Portugal loses or even draws in this match they will probably not make the World Cup next summer.
Denmark at Sweden
Sweden 2.05 Denmark 3.65 Draw 3.25
Sweden is in the same position as Portugal, as they are in 2nd place and trail Hungary and Denmark by 7 points in Group 1. AND their offense has been struggling big time. In their last two group matches the Swedes have played to a 0-0 draw. Sweden needs to win this home match, but if Denmark can win or even draw they can book their ticket to South Africa.
Ukraine at Croatia
Croatia 1.75 Ukraine 4.30 Draw 3.25
Group 6 may be the group of death, as there are 3 teams in the top 19 in FIFA rankings in the group with England (6), Croatia (8), and Ukraine (19). England will probably win Group 6, as they have 15 points followed by Croatia with 10 points and Ukraine with 7 points. If Croatia wins this home game in Zagreb they will be in great position to qualify for the World Cup, while Ukraine, who were semifinalists in Germany in 2006, has to win or they will be in major trouble.
Austria at Serbia
Serbia 1.35 Austria 8.00 Draw 4.20
In Group 7 Serbia is a the surprise, as they currently lead with 12 points followed by France with 10 points and Austria with 7 points. This is, pretty much, a do or die game for Austria, as if Serbia wins this home match they will be heading to the World Cup and Austria will not.
Ireland at Bulgaria
Bulgaria 1.95 Ireland 3.50 Draw 3.20
Big match in Group 8, as Bulgaria is in 3rd place in the group with 7 points trailing Italy with 14 points and Ireland with 12 points. Bulgaria has played one less game then Ireland in group play, but they need to win this game, as a loss or even a draw will almost kill their chances in qualifying for the World Cup. If Ireland wins they can punch their ticket to South Africa.
Norway at Macedonia
Macedonia 2.70 Norway 2.45 Draw 3.10
Norway has been a disappointment in Group 9, as they are in the basement with only 2 points. However, Norway has only played 3 games and Macedonia has played 4 and Holland and Scotland have played 5. Macedonia only has 3 points and both teams HAVE to win this game, as a draw or a loss for either will be a huge blow to their World Cup hopes.
