THE WEEK IN SPORTS

It turned out to be much ado about nothing last week as the game 7’s turned into blowouts in the NBA. We also witnessed a rather one sided first game in the Western Conference finals in the NHL as the Red Wings looked absolutely dominant. One major shocker in the world of Tennis was the defeat of Nadal on clay to Roger Federer. Lets start out our  look at the week in sports with a look ahead at the NBA playoffs.

(1) LA LAKERS vs. (2) DENVER

It may not have been the prettiest series but the LA Lakers are in the Western Conference finals. They face a hot team in the Denver Nuggets who has actually looked better than the Lakers in the playoffs. This one is going to be tough to call because LA can beat anyone in the NBA if they play like they did in game 7. The regular season series between the Nuggets and the Lakers was 3-1 in favor of the Lakers but two of those games were when Denver did not have Chauncey Billups. This one is tough to call because you never know which Lakers team will show up. The game tomorrow night should be a good indicator of the series.  Coverage begins on ESPN at 9 pm.

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

(1) CLEVELAND vs. (3) ORLANDO

This one really stands out to me because few people probably give Orlando much chance. But a quick look at the regular season record of their games should throw that idea into doubt. Orlando has actually beaten Cleveland 7 of the last 10 times, and this season had two blowout wins at home including Cleveland’s worst loss of the season. Don’t count the Magic out of this one, one off night by the Cavs and this series may go 7.

Western conference finals NHL

Chicago 7:30 pm EDT
Detroit VS., TSN May 19

After watching the first game of the series I really think the Detroit Red Wings are the team to beat for the Stanley Cup. Chicago is young and fast but they have no chance here . They may steal a game at home but I would be surprised to see this one go more than 5. This one will be great to watch and great to wager on a Detroit possible sweep. The Anaheim Ducks were able to give Detroit a harder time than Chicago will because of the physical play of the Ducks, Chicago doesnt match up well in this one.

Carolina 45-30-7 (Road: 19-16-6) 7:30pm ET
Pittsburgh 45-28-9 (Home: 25-13-3)

The Pittsburgh Penguins begin the Eastern Conference finals at home as they host the Carolina Hurricanes. Led by superstar Sidney Crosby, the Penguins took out the Washington Capitals in the last round and now they host a hot Carolina Hurricane team. Of course we all know who carolina has to stop,  Crosby has 12 goals and 21 points in 13 games in this year’s NHL playoffs.

The Penguins are trying to reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the second consecutive year and this should be a fast skating affair. I am going to hold off making comments on Carolinas chances, they are an absolute shock this year so we will see.

Finally , in the world of Tennis, it may have took him nearly two years, but Roger Federer earned his first victory over Rafael Nadal in a tournament final since Wimbledon 2007. This year’s Australian Open final, when Federer melted down spectacularly in the fifth set, was the most striking evidence of the domination Nadal has held over his biggest rival. This latest  victory by Fed  really leaves the Roland Garros wide open.  It’s going to be a great French Open and a great month in sports so stay tuned to our site for up to date coverage, picks,  odds, and whole lot more.

Have a great week

Cheers
