THE BELMONT STAKES

We are 8 days away from the running of the third leg of the triple crown, The Belmont Stakes but I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and take a look at this important race. The Belmont Stakes, the final and most demanding leg of the Triple Crown, takes place on June 6, 2009.

This is a longer race and maybe not as prestigious as the Kentucky Derby but this is a race that is actually older than the Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby is the most prestigious horse race of the three, it’s the first big race of the season, the field is larger and most people dont know alot about much about any of the horses in the field and then once the winner is known, the love affair with the winner is set in motion. But , I really love this race and in many ways its easier to make money on the two races after the Kentucky as the field thins and the great horses are easier to spot.

What really sets this race apart is the length of the race. The Preakness is 1 3/16 miles (9.5 furlongs); whereas the Belmont Stakes is 1½ miles (12 furlongs) . One thing to really watch out for in this race is a horses ability to close. If you remember the way Mine that Bird closed in on Rachel Alexandra at the Preakness, you really have to watch Bird at this distance.

I have been big on Rachel Alexandra so far and i hope people have been wagering my recommendations on this horse. This is a beautiful filly but what concerns me is the distance of this next race. In the Preakness but Mike Smith wasn’t as lucky, none of the other jockeys wanted to let the #2 horse Mine that Bird sneak up to the rail like he did at the Kentucky. My question is if the Preakness had of been as long as Belmont would  Bird have  caught Rachel Alexandra?

Check out our Racing-Futures.asp”>odds page and get some money in for this race. There should be some great deals out there for this last leg of the triple crown so keep an eye on our site over the next few weeks. This is a great race and should be alot of fun

cheers
