MLB,NBA and getting ready for the Derby
I am coming off a very good night and almost sweeping the board if it wasn’t for a back door cover by the Trailblazers. Of course, I decide to wager a lot of my winnings this morning on English Premier League soccer and before I wake up, I have already lost 75 dollars. Nice. I am excited though , my favorite time of the year is here with the Kentucky Derby right around the corner. Horse racing is what I started wagering in a long time ago and it really is my passion. Horse racing is just a tough way to make money on a regular basis unless you are willing to devote a lot of time to the numbers and a certain track.
Lets look at some wagers for today.

Philadelphia Phillies (7-8) at Florida Marlins (11-5)
R) Chan Ho Park (0-0) vs. (R) Chris Volstad (2-0)
Oddsmakers: Florida as a -130 home favorite with the total listed at 9½ ‘over’
The Marlins have really surprised me this year and I am going to continue to follow them even if they seem to have faltered outside of their division. The Marlins (11-5) were the big surprise of the year after picking up 11 wins in 12 games – all against the NL East – but stumbled in their first series outside the division, getting swept in Pittsburgh.
I still love backing a guy as good as Volstad on the mound at home. Volstad was near perfect in his first two starts, giving up two earned runs in 12 innings, but he wasn’t sharp at Washington on Sunday. He allowed three runs and six hits but lasted just 4 1-3 innings largely because of a high pitch count, and left early in a game the Marlins won 7-4.

Milwaukee Brewers (7-9) at Houston Astros (6-11)
(R) Jeff Suppan (1-2) vs. (L) Mike Hampton (1-1)
This is a mainly a play on how good Hampton has been at Minute Maid park and Suppans recent troubles against the Astros. Brewers’ Jeff Suppan pitched great last Sunday in a 4-2 win against the Mets, but has had difficulties versus the Astros, just 2-7 with a 5.34 ERA in his career against Houston and the Brewers are 2-7 in the right-handers’ last 9 starts. Houston’ Southpaw Mike Hampton is 4-2 with a 2.87 ERA. in 11 career games against Milwaukee, but didn’t face them last season. The Astros are 16-5 in Hampton’s last 21 home starts. You cant argue with 16-5.

San Antonio Spurs (55-30) at Dallas Mavericks (52-33)
I really think the Dallas Mavericks will continue continue to play excellent defense and will utilize the home court advantage against the aging Spurs. Dallas will have home advantage today in Game 4 and if Dirk and Josh Howard perform as they did in Game 3, the Spurs will be in for a long night. The Spurs are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games and the home team in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. You have to like the Mavericks at home with The Spurs injuries and the Dallas has really turned around a rather average season and is playing like the Mavericks of old.

There are some great races at Churchill Downs getting ready for the Derby. .Race 10 is a big race and is the DRF’s race of the day.
This Saturday, Churchill Downs presents The Derby Trial Stakes (Grade III) for 3 year olds at 7 1/2 furlongs on the dirt for a purse of $100,000. A field of 8 is currently scheduled to go to the post at 5:17 p.m. EDT.

I would look at Santana Six and maybe an exacta box or a play on Romans Dale as well .
I will write some blogs before the Derby but right now I really like the looks of Quality Road and I Want Revenge and Friesan Fire. I doubt you will find higher speed ratings for any horse higher in the race than Quality Road ,this Bay colt can move and in terms of ratings I want Revenge is another one to keep an eye on. We will talk more about ratings and what to look for but forright now these three horses really stand out despite all the talk about Papa Clem. Watch the race at Churchill today and get ready for a great field for the Derby. I cant remember a Kentucky Derby with so many great contenders.This is really going to be an extremely competitive Derby this year.
