NHL Stanley Cup Futures – Streaking Teams and Struggling Ones

The NHL playoffs are approaching fast and there is still time to make some futures bets to which team will win the Stanley Cup. There are some teams that are streaking going into the playoffs and some that are sputtering. Hockey is a sport of streaks and there are some good odds to be had for teams playing well heading into the post season and odds to stay away from with teams limping into the playoffs.

Streaking Teams

The New Jersey Devils have good odds at many sportsbooks, as they generally have only the 4th best odds, but they have won 8 of their last 10 games and look to catch Boston for the top seed in the East. Pittsburgh is playing great and have good odds to win it all and they have not lost (8-0-2) in their last 10 games. The Penguins are scoring just over 3 goals per game and Sidney Crosby and company are hungry to get back to the finals. Vancouver also has good odds and they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and have a great defense. One long shot with huge payout odds is Nashville, as they currently are in the 8th position in the Western Conference. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and they have a legit defense and if their offense wakes up they are a good dark horse come playoff time. Detroit has the best odds at all sportsbooks to hoist the Staley Cup this year and with good reason, as they have the best record and most points in the NHL. They are also playing well being 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Their payout is not huge, but it is hard to bet against the defending champs and a team that has, by far, the best offense scoring 3.63 goals per game.

Struggling Teams

Boston currently leads the East, and has done so for most of the season, but most sportsbooks have them with the 3rd best odds. Defense wins in the NHL playoffs and the Bruins have the best goals against average at only 2.27 per game. However, the Bruins are only 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and their offense is struggling to score goals. Washington and Philadelphia are both only around .500 in their last 10 games and even though each may host a first round playoff series, each may be upset. Chicago is currently in the 4th position in the Western Conference, but they have only won 3 of their last 10 games (3-6-1). San Jose has the 2nd best odds at most sportsbooks and they are in the 2nd position in the West, but they are only 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.
