Champions League Quarterfinals are Set!
The Champions League quarterfinals were recently announced and there are a couple of heavy favorites and a couple of great match ups.
FC Porto vs. Manchester United
ManU is a heavy favorite in this match up after taking out Inter Milan in the round of 16. ManU looks to become the first team to defend the CL trophy since UEFA Champions League was introduced in back in 1992/93. If you check out sportsbooks you can see that ManU have the best odds, along with Barcelona, to win the CL this year. Now that the match ups are announced that is even more the case, as they have to beat FC Porto, which should not be a problem for them, and then play the winner of the Villareal vs. Arsenal match up and will, once again, be heavy favorites.
Villareal vs. vs. Arsenal
Villareal is the last surviving team in the Champions League that has not reached a CL final. They will take on an Arsenal team that beat AS Roma on penalties in the last round. Both of these teams are pretty much out of their respective league races and each will concentrate on moving on to the CL semifinals. Villareal has the worst odds at many sportsbooks to win the CL this season, but they looked solid in the round of 16. Arsenal is an up and down club that has to find their offense, as in the last round they only scored 2 goals in 2 games against AS Roma.
Chelsea vs. Liverpool
In a battle of 2 English Premier League rivals Chelsea will take on Liverpool for the right to advance to the semifinals. At time of writing both of these teams are tied in points in their domestic league, but Liverpool is on fire recently, as they beat ManU at Old Trafford last week and they scored 4 goals at home against Real Madrid in the round of 16. Not only was their offense impressive, but their defense did not give up a goal in the two games against the Spanish giants. Chelsea had a tougher time getting by Juventus, but they looked good in scoring 2 away goals against Juve in the 2nd leg of the round of 16. Both these teams have similar odds to win the Champions League this season.
Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich
Man, what a match up! Both of these teams are tied with the most goals in the Champions League this season with 24 a piece. Bayern looked awesome in the round of 16, as they scored 12 goals against Sporting Lisbon in 2 games, including 5 in Lisbon. Along with ManU, Barcelona has the best odds to win the Champions League this season at most sportsbooks and Bayern is in the middle of the pack. Barcelona is running away with La Liga, while Bayern is currently in second place in the Bundesliga. The key to this home and away series will be which team can play defense against the opposing stacked offense.
