2009 PGA Season
This past weekend the 2009 PGA season got under way with the Mercedes Championship at Kapalua. The tournament was won by Geoff Ogilvy who finished at 24 under par to claim 1.12 million dollars. The win moved him up to number six in the world rankings. Several other players had a good week to start their season. Davis Love and Anthony Kim tied for second place and showed for different reasons that they will be a force to reckon with this season. Anthony Kim is the best young player in the game and following his incredible performance at last years Ryder Cup, he appears to be set for a great year. Davis Love on the other hand appeared to be finished as an elite player just one year ago, but has rededicated himself to the game and seems to be a force once again. That is great to see because there aren’t many people that have the balance of talent and character that Davis possesses.
But the biggest question mark for the 2009 season is how Tiger Woods responds coming off of last years knee surgery. The last tournament that Woods played in was last June’s U.S. Open, which he won in amazing fashion. With a broken leg and torn ligaments in his right knee, Woods outlasted Rocco Mediate after 19 extra holes. His victory included one of the most amazing and clutch putts in golf history: a slippery downhill putt that broke several feet from right to left on the 72nd hole to force the playoff. Woods has had surgery on the same knee twice before and both times he won his first tournament back. But this surgery was much more serious and he had to take a lot more time off to rehabilitate. It is speculated that his first tournament back won’t be at least until the WGC Match Play Chamionship in late February. But Woods has stated that whenever his official return date is, that he will be ready for The Masters in April.
Here are the futures for the top players to win this years Masters tournament:
